Sazerac (aka "Vieux Carré Whisper")

Difficulty: 2 (Moderate - requires shaking, muddling, or 4+ ingredients)
Type: Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 sugar cube or 1/4 oz simple syrup
  • 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
  • Absinthe rinse
  • Lemon peel

Instructions:

  1. Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe; discard excess.
  2. Stir rye, sugar, and bitters with ice.
  3. Strain into the rinsed glass.
  4. Express lemon oils; no ice.

Description:

New Orleans icon—rye spice, anise perfume, and a dry, elegant finish.
